Shapewar

OK, if you don't know this already this is a DOS program I wrote a
long time ago using a lethargic 3D engine from a book. I patched it to add
speed adjustment so that it won't run too fast on better computers than mine
(P90) but it won't do anything for slower ones. Especially on computers like
mine or slower, you may need to wait about a minute for the speed adjustment
to catch up (if I let it adjust faster, it sometimes jumps from fast to slow
unpredictibly.) I know the principle used for 'good' speed adjustment now,
but it's not an easy conversion.
This is just an old program I patched up, don't expect much.

Generic Controls:
F1: switch between centering on each of the players or the center of the
field.
F2: switch between fixed and follow-rotation mode when centered on a player.
F3: cycle between the perpectives. (first-person, overhead, follow, etc.)
ESC: press once to pause, then press again to quit or any other key to
continue.

Player Control:
Keyboard:
You get to choose the keys to use. Forward starts you moving forward,
left and right start you turning in that direction, stop stops all forward and
rotational movement, fire fires your regular weapon, and special uses the
item (if any) that you picked up.

Joystick:
Just like the keyboard, except you move the joystick and press it's
buttons instead of getting to choose keys. Duh.

Mouse:
Works a little different. It gives you a little blinking white dot for
the mouse pointer, and you shape attempts to move twoards that point to the
best of it's primitive ability. The mouse buttons use your weapons.

Computer:
Puts the primitave excuse for an AI in charge of the shape. But it's
something to shoot at, and it even shoots back every once and a while.

Edit mode:
Nothing to complicated. Use left and right to add and subtract from a
stat, and ESC to quit. The x/y means you get x and it costs you y points for
each add you do. You can figure out the rest. Except maybe that projectile
weapons tend to do more damage but have a slower r.o.f, while laser weapons
are quicker but cost more get good damage. (also effects some of the
power-ups) Also, though Structural is cheaper, hits that go into structural
also do criticals, which will reduce your stats, and there is a very small
chance of simply blowing up.

Power-Ups:

Light Cyan Jump Jets
Magneta Speed Booster
Cyan Turn Jets
Light Blue Shield
Light Magneta Repulser (makes you harder to hit)
Light Grey Nuke/Charge Laser
Red Missile/Phase Laser
Dark Grey Heavy Cannon/Heavy Laser
Blue Homeing Missile/Homeing Laser
Yellow Ozzi/Burst Charge Laser
Light Green Disrupter Missile/Zapper (stuns the shape it hits)
Green Spread Missle/Scatter Laser
Brown Reverse Gear
Black Self-Destruct
Light Red Repair Droid
White Teleporter

Status Bars:

The top yellow bar is armor, below that is structural, then the current
special weapon, and then spare parts.

That should be just about everthing that you might not be able to figure out
by yourself.
